The 2nd International Conference
On Geotechnical Engineering for Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation (GEDMR08)
Nanjing, China, 16-19 May 2008
ORGANISED BY
ISSMGE,TC-39 on Geotechnical Engineering for Costal Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation and
ISSMGE,TC-4 Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering and Associated Problems
INTRODUCTION
Disaster mitigation and rehabilitation has increasingly become one of the major concerns of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists. Following the first successful conference of this series in Singapore, TC39, TC4, The Joint Working Group for Geotechnical Engineering for Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation and the Geotechnical Research Institute (GeoHohai) of Hohai University, China, are jointly organizing the second Conference in May 2008 in Nanjing, one of the historic cities in China. The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for engineers, academics, construction equipment and materials manufacturers, suppliers, and government officials to present and exchange the latest developments and case histories related to geotechnical engineering for disaster prevention, mitigation and rehabilitation.
CONFERENCE THEMES
Main theme Enhancing the disaster mitigation and rehabilitation capabilities through research and development.
Proposed sub-themes:
1.Case histories on recent and past natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami, landslide, etc.)
2.Mechanisms of natural and coastal disasters (soil dynamics, liquefaction, geological and environmental factors, earthquake analysis and modelling, etc.)
3. Disaster mitigation and rehabilitation techniques (difficult soils, ground treatment, design against earthquake and other natural disasters, coastal protections, etc.)
4. Risk analysis and geohazard predictions (risk mapping, consequence evaluation, reliability analysis etc.)
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND PROPOSALS
Prospective authors are invited to submit a one page abstract of no more than 500 words. We accept proposals for all activities of the conference, including short courses, workshops, debates, plenary lectures, mini-symposia, panel discussions & technical sessions. The proposed activities should be directly relevant to geotechnical practitioners and educators and related to the conference topics. The individual abstracts and proposals may be submitted by one of the following methods:
By post: Prof. Hanlong Liu, Geotechnical Research Institute, Hohai University, 1 Xikang Road, Nanjing, 210098, China.
