Notice on Application for 2017 Open-end Research Fund of the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering

The State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering (hereafter referred to as Laboratory) was established depending on two national key disciplines,i.e.,geotechnical engineeringandengineering mechanics in bothChina University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) and CUMT (Beijing),several provincial key disciplinesnamely disaster prevention &reduction engineering,protection engineering andgeological survey & information technology. In 2008, the Laboratory wasauthorized to start constructionand passed the first assessment in 2013 astheexcellent laboratory which belongs to the field of engineering science.Now, theLaboratory has set uptheopen-end research fund topromoteChina’s basic research and technological innovation ofgeomechanics anddeepundergroundengineering,give full playtothe Laboratory’s function in international cooperation and high-level talentscultivation, attractboth domestic and foreigntalents to work orconduct high-levelbasic researchesand make innovativeachievement employing the resourcesinthe Laboratory.

II. Application for the Open-end Research Fund

1. The Laboratory invitesboth domestic and overseasscholars of therelatedfield to apply for projects focusing on the major researchdirections of the Laboratory. The Laboratory willselect the open-end fund projects in accordance with the principle of “fairness, impartiality,merit” and procedures of free application, preliminary examination by the Laboratory, andapproval by the Academic Committee.

2.TheLaboratoryplans to set upabout25 open-end fund projects in 2017.The average fund for each project amounts tonearlyRMB 80,000yuan.Generally, the research period willextend for two years. The project duration is fromJanuary 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019.

3. The Laboratory welcomes scholars bothathome and abroad to bring their own projects andconduct visiting researchesusing equipmentin the Laboratory.Necessary researchfacilitiesand technical services will be provided by the Laboratory.

4.At first, the applicantshould read the Notice of Application and theTrial Method for Open-end Research Fund, then log into the Management System of the Open-end Research Fund:http://gdue2.cumt.edu.cn/jijin/index.asp. After registration,the applicant should fill in the application formas per specified format requirement and then uploadthe formto the management system.The online upload deadline is November 24, 2017. Oncethe application form has been approved,signed and stamped by the work unitof the applicant,the applicant should send it tothe Laboratory in two copies (both original copy, printed on both sides inanA4paperand stapled to the left) before December 1, 2017.

5.BothXuzhou and Beijing have the Laboratory. Please send your application form to only ONE place.
